Where are you from?
I was born in the Seychelles.

Wait, you’re not Asian?
No. I’m African, see previous question.

What languages do you speak?
French, English and Seychellois Creole. I also understand a fair bit of Spanish.

What’s your favorite travel destination?
Japan. For everything. The food, the sights, the culture, the people, the new, the old… the emotions.

Besides Japan, are there any other countries that stood out during your travels?
In no particular order.

  • Nepal: a fascinating country with a rich culture and super friendly people.
  • Cuba: an emphasis on Havana to take a step back in time. There’s no other city like it.
  • South Africa: mountains, beaches, wine, food, safari, penguins and sharks.
  • Thailand: Thai cuisine, street food, temples, beaches and amazing culture.
  • India: the place that gave me the most new perspectives on life.

How can you afford to travel as much?
I have a 9 to 5 job and I save my money. It really comes down to your personal life choices. Travelling is what brings the most happiness into my life so I focus on that. I don’t have a mortgage, car payments, kids or expensive hobbies (with the exception of photography) so that helps. Another life choice that helped me out was working for an airline/travel company for 13 years.

What camera do you use?
I’m currently using the Olympus E-M5 mark II as well as the Fujifilm X100V. I do however post photos taken with other cameras from Nikon (D60, D90, D300s and D700) as well as from cell phones (Nexus 6P, Galaxy S8, Galaxy Note 9 and iPhone XS).

Please see my equipment page to see a more detailed description of my gear.

Do I need an expensive/dedicated camera to take good photos?
It depends what a “good photo” means to you but in general, no. Today, most recent cell phones can take very nice photos. Personally, I think that having a better subject and good composition is much more important than the technical capabilities of your camera gear. Let’s not kid ourselves though, a good dedicated camera will, in the right hands, be a more capable tool than a mobile phone.

Do you edit your photos? Which software do you use?
Yes I do edit my photos. When using my dedicated camera, I mostly shoot in RAW and adjust basic settings in Lightroom. When using my cell phone, I will usually do some light editing in Google Photos.

What’s your favorite plane?
I have to give the first position to the Boeing 747 with the runner-up being the 787 Dreamliner. The A380 is a very nice plane as well but there’s just too many people on there.

What’s your favorite airline company?
British Airways is the first airline I remember travelling with so I’ll always have a soft spot for them. I really do enjoy the services of Japan Airlines, Singapore Airlines and Turkish Airlines as well.
