The Imizamo Yethu township located in the Hout Bay area of South Africa is considered to be an “informal settlement”. It is said to house over 30 000 people living in impoverished conditions. You can understand that being an informal settlement, the whole place lacks basic infrastructures such as a sewerage system.

During my visit to Cape Town, I opted to do a guided tour of the township as it helps the community. The tour is done by a local resident and you can even buy handicrafts from local artisans. A guided tour of the local school is also on the menu and you will get to meet some of the volunteers running the place.
