Early April. I’m somewhere in South East Asia. The temperature is oppressively hot. I’m not used to this back in Canada. The sun is setting as I sit on the beach. In the distance are two shadowy figures murmuring to one another. I listen to the timid waves crashing on the shore. There’s a slight breeze. I breathe in the thick and humid air as sweat drips down my temple. The colours produced by the last rays of the Sun are perfectly fitting. I clumsily fiddle around with the camera and by a stroke of luck manage to capture the last light of the day. Somewhere behind me I hear a distant voice talking in Tagalog and my name is called out.
